Position: Finance Administrator


Holy Names House of Peace, an accredited, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 2004 and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The House of Peace is a refuge in the heart of the city, an intercultural, life affirming community that provides:

  • Space for organizations that promote justice, peace and understanding

Job Description:

The Finance Administrator, accountable to the Executive Coordinator ensures the integrity of all finance operations, develops efficient and effective financial processes and procedures, liaises with the Treasurer of the Board, provides program and Board support and is a signing officer.


  • Assess short and long term financial needs

  • Develop and use appropriate internal controls

  • Do accounting functions including payables, receivables and reconciliations

  • Maintain financial files including invoices and receipts

  • Verify expenditures, amount and allocation

  • Monitor cash flow

  • Check purchase orders with invoices and ensure they are correct

  • Account for daily donations and store sales

  • Reconcile monthly bank statements

  • Ensure the timely and accurate payment of Staff and Neighbours’ receipts

  • Process bank deposits and monitor petty cash

  • Input and prepare yearly tax receipts

  • Assist with the preparation of annual tax returns

  • Prepare and present financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to the Executive Coordinator and Board of Directors

  • Prepare annual budget – report quarterly actuals to budget and the now forecasted year-end financial position to the Executive Coordinator and Board of Directors

  • Monitor investments as well as the other significant assets. Report to the Executive Coordinator and Board on their value, return rates and growth

  • Review House of Peace Endowment Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation and report to the to the Executive Coordinator and Board of Directors quarterly

  • Assist Staff with financial reports to funders and/or businesses

  • Process payroll and maintain employee records of accumulated earnings and deductions as well as accrued vacation

  • Prepare T4’s annually for each employee

  • Provide information and work with the external auditors for the preparation of the annual financial statements

  • Ensure related statutory requirements are met both in terms of payments and reporting, including payroll tax

  • Ensure that mutual obligations with the Landlord are fulfilled

  • Correspond with insurance broker and adjustors re insurance claims

  • Communicate with insurance agent and liaise with Staff re insurance coverage, premiums and benefits

  • Retain and keep confidential insurance files 

  • Have a certified CGA CMA or CPA review financial statements once a month



  • A Bachelor Degree

  • Two years Canadian experience in book keeping, accounting and office management

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Word, Outlook, (Excel) spreadsheets and (QuickBooks) 

  • Advanced problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Hours of work:  37.5 hrs. a week, Monday to Friday. Evening hours may be required.


Vacation: 3 weeks


Salary: $19.90 an hour plus benefits


Start date: March 1, 2018
